Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has assured that Lionel Messi will end his football career at the Spanish club.

This is coming amidst speculations that the 33-year-old talisman Argentine striker may leave Nou Camp when his current deal expires as he is yet to agree new terms with the Spanish giants.

However, Bartomeu has rubbished rumours of an imminent departure of Messi from the club, noting that the striker will end his career at Barcelona.

‘Messi has said he will end his working and footballing life at Barca,’ Bartomeu told Spanish network Movistar after his side beat Villarreal 4-1 on Sunday, July 5.

‘I’m not going to explain the details because we are focused on the competition and we are negotiating with many players but Messi has explained to us that he wants to stay and so we’re going to enjoy him for much longer.’

Messi has spent his entire career at Barcelona, having come through the youth ranks to establish himself as a club legend.

The 33-year-old has won a club-record 34 trophies, including ten La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles and six Copas del Rey. He has also won a record six Ballon d’Or awards and a record six European Golden Shoes.

However, there are rumours that the player is not willing to extend his contract because of current happenings at the club particularly as it touches the relationship between players and the board.
