Gunmen kidnap five wedding guests in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has explained that about five guests abducted by suspected gunmen were returning from a traditional marriage in the state on Monday night.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, he assured that the security personnel had launched a rescue operation to ensure that the victims were safely reunited with their families unhurt and the perpetrators brought to book.

The guests were said to have been kidnapped at about 10 pm on their way home from the traditional marriage.

The statement explained, “The guests (names withheld) were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 10pm on the Akpo-Nkpologwu Road in Aguata Local Area of Anambra.”

It stated that about 15 of the guests were returning to the hotel from Achina, the venue of the marriage, in a convoy of three vehicles when they ran into the abductors, but only the first car was able to escape.

The statement explained that the gunmen asked all the ladies to go and took five of the men away after shooting into the air.

It added that the abductors were yet to make any contact with the victims’ families.
