National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Imo State Command (NDLEA), has called on all communities in the State to assist the agency in the fight against drug abuse.

Imo State Commander of the Agency, NSE INAM made the call during an interview with journalists in Owerri, urging residents of the state to bring their loved ones to NDLEA for counselling, correction and rehabilitation at no cost.

The theme of this International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is tagged– ‘health for justice, justice for health’ – underlining the importance of a holistic approach involving health, human rights, criminal justice and social service institutions.

The NDLEA boss therefore, called on the State Government to increase funding for the institutions to enable the agency deliver on their mandates in curtailing the scourge of drug abuse.

United Nations General Assembly decided to observe 26th June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse.
